Reinventing Radio
I've just come off the stage at Emerging Tech after presenting some of our thoughts on reinventing radio. Tom's posted the slides and some thoughts over at his site, but I think there's a couple of points that deserve to be highlighted.
Firstly, the three principles Tom and Matt came up with for a social space:
- An individual should get some value from their contributions
- Other people should get value from someone's contributions
- The organisation hosting the service should get value from hosting the contributions
Secondly, there's the idea of bubble up metadata - if you have some set of objects, then you can infer some metadata for the set from the metadata associated with the individual objects. For example, you could suggest tags for an album based on the individual tracks. Or you can infer a certain amount about a person based on the tags associated with their flickr photos.
Both ideas probably need some refinement, but they're a great starting point for further thinking.
